SEA AND SKIES

HELEN MASON

Courtyard Arts Gallery

3 – 28 September, 2024

Helen’s recent paintings have developed from the earlier autobiographical landscapes and townscapes and explore atmosphere, texture and colour. Working in primarily acrylics, gesso and graphite, the miniature Sky paintings are a more experimental of those elements and inform the larger pieces.

Personal memories and places still feature in Helen’s work, but with more observational references within the abstracted landscapes ( particularly in the oil studies). Creating a sense of space and atmosphere is the driving force to these paintings. The use of colour is also important in developing this and Helen responds and works with the unexpected combinations that result from this.

The paintings may be viewed as sea and skyscapes, or just stand back and enjoy the colour, texture and atmosphere.
