IMAGINED LANDSCAPES
JUDE O’SULLIVAN
Courtyard Arts is delighted to present Imagined Landscapes, a solo exhibition by Hertford-based printmaker Jude O’Sullivan.
This vibrant and contemplative show features a series of limited-edition lino prints and monochrome impressions created from the residual textures of the original plates. The works explore the interplay between memory, place, and imagination—offering viewers a layered visual journey through abstracted landscapes and subtle narratives.
“This exhibition is about what remains—both physically and emotionally—after the print is pulled,” says Jude O’Sullivan. “I’m fascinated by the ghost images left behind on the plate, and how they can tell a different story from the original. These pieces are as much about process as they are about place.”
Jude, a former Head of Department in Further Education, now teaches printmaking at Courtyard Arts and is known for her experimental approach to screen printing and collage. Her work is deeply influenced by Japanese aesthetics, particularly in her use of colour, pattern, and negative space.
Laura Burns, Director of Courtyard Arts, comments: “Jude’s work is a masterclass in quiet complexity. Her prints invite you to look again—and then again—at the layers beneath the surface. We’re thrilled to host this new body of work, which reflects both her technical skill and her poetic sensibility.”
Visitors will also have the opportunity to meet the artist and see live demonstrations of her printmaking techniques during the exhibition’s run. Full details and opening times are available at www.courtyardarts.org.uk.
