INSPIRATIONS

LIZ BLACK

Courtyard Arts is pleased to announce Inspirations, a new solo exhibition by Hertfordshire‑based contemporary artist Liz Black. This vibrant exhibition explores Black’s long‑standing creative relationship with St Ives, Cornwall—a place whose light, landscape, and artistic legacy have shaped generations of British artists.

For Liz, St Ives is more than a picturesque destination; it is a catalyst for experimentation. Inspirationsbrings together a series of works that respond to the town’s coastal forms, shifting light, and modernist heritage. Through bold colour, sculptural geometry, and a distinctive interplay between digital and physical processes, Black invites visitors to experience St Ives through her own visual language.

Liz Black is a contemporary visual artist working across painting, sculpture, and digital media. She holds First Class Honours in both her BA and MA in Fine Art from the University of Hertfordshire, where she developed her interest in modernist abstraction and spatial theory. Her practice often begins with three‑dimensional sculptural constructions, which she translates into two‑dimensional works that explore rhythm, depth, and the emotional potential of colour.

Liz has exhibited widely across the UK and has undertaken multiple residencies, including her ongoing engagement with Courtyard Arts. Previous works have included ‘Digital Discard’ an exhibition of digital art inspired by sculptures made from used crisp packets. She was Artist in Resident at Courtyard Arts throughout August 2025 and. Her work continues to evolve through a dialogue between place, structure, and perception.

Exhibition: Tuesday 3 – Saturday 28 March, 2026
