A celebration of three artists, one creative lineage

Courtyard Arts is proud to present Family Affair, a warm and compelling exhibition bringing together work by three members of the Dimond/Falstrup family: Kit Falstrup, Roger Dimond, and Alex Dimond. Spanning textiles, painting, illustration, design and conceptual work, the show reveals the creative threads that connect three distinct artistic voices across generations.

At its heart is the late Kit Falstrup, whose extraordinary talent and prolific making shaped the artistic lives of her husband and son. After childhood years in both the US and UK, Kit studied printed textiles at Farnham College of Art before moving into display design at Jaeger’s London studio and later working with the Arts Council of Great Britain’s Art Films department. She eventually established Kit Falstrup Knitwear in Hertfordshire, producing expressive, colourful knitwear and, later in life, richly textured pictorial textile pieces. Influenced by Paul Klee and Kaffe Fassett, Kit’s work radiates warmth, rhythm and a deep love of materials.

This exhibition is Roger and Alex’s tribute to her life, her creativity and her enduring inspiration.

Roger Dimond

Roger brings to the exhibition a long, multifaceted career in art and design that spans continents, disciplines and decades. Raised in South Wales, he studied painting at Cardiff College of Art before completing an Art Teachers Diploma at Hornsey College of Art — training that grounded him in both rigorous visual thinking and a lifelong commitment to creative education.

His early professional years took him to New York City, where he worked in furniture-making and interior design, developing a sensitivity to materials, structure and spatial relationships that continues to inform his work today. Returning to London, Roger joined the Jaeger Shops Display Studio, creating window schemes, exhibition stands and visual merchandising that combined craftsmanship with bold, modernist design principles.

Alongside his design practice, Roger taught art in London and Hertfordshire for many years, influencing generations of young artists and designers. In recent years he has returned to painting and conceptual work, often exploring landscape, memory and the built environment. His influences — Paul Cézanne, Joseph Albers, Ben Nicholson and Franz Kline — can be felt in the clarity of his compositions, the disciplined use of colour, and the strong sense of place that anchors his pieces.

Alex Dimond

Bristol-based illustrator, painter and animator Alex Dimond represents the newest branch of the family’s creative lineage. Growing up in Hertfordshire, he completed an Art Foundation at Hertford Regional College before studying Illustration at the University of the West of England, where he developed a distinctive visual language rooted in world-building, narrative and imaginative design.

Alex now works freelance across multiple media, producing illustration, concept art, animation and painted works for a range of clients and personal projects. His practice draws heavily on sci-fi and fantasy literature, as well as the oddities and eccentricities of the natural world — a combination that gives his work both a sense of wonder and a grounded observational sharpness. Influences such as Brian Aldiss and Jean Giraud (Moebius) can be seen in his intricate linework, atmospheric colour palettes and the expansive, speculative worlds he creates.

Alex’s contribution to Family Affair brings a contemporary energy to the exhibition, showing how the family’s creative legacy continues to evolve in new directions
