Voyages of the Imagination
What happens when you start with just three words … and no map? This exhibition is inspired by What3Words, a location system that divides the entire planet into tiny 3m x 3m grids, each identified by a unique trio of words. A simple idea and one that opens up endless journeys. Artists could either start with a location they love and search for that one grid square with words that most inspired them. Or they could begin by choosing three words that intrigued them and discover where in the world they landed. We all therefore started with three random words to inspire us and, from there, our imaginations took over. There was no set path and no right answer.
Every journey has been different, every outcome unpredictable. That’s been the challenge, and the fun, of this exhibition.
YOUR OWN VOYAGE THROUGH THE GALLERY
As you explore, think of yourself as our fellow traveller. Each artwork is a destination. Beside it, you’ll find the artist’s three words and a glimpse into how they navigated their creative journey. Some paths are direct. Others twist, wander, or leap across continents and ideas. Like us, you may arrive somewhere familiar or at a place that is totally unexpected.
