JO HALLAM
STABLES GALLERY
Courtyard Arts is delighted to present Fractured, a new exhibition by Joanne Hallam, running from 4 to 29 August. This deeply personal collection explores the interplay of light, emotion and resilience — revealing beauty within life’s complexities and the fragments that shape our stories.
Jo’s creative journey spans social care, education, policing and media, including work with BBC Radio. A self‑taught artist, she has run a life‑drawing group since before the pandemic, co‑hosts the Fatmod and Keith’s Spin Off podcast, and has published poetry. Her practice is rooted in education and the support of children and adults with neurodiversity and mental health challenges. With qualifications in mindfulness and CBT therapies, Jo champions art as a purposeful, accessible tool for wellbeing: “Art of any genre is a valuable emotional release not to be underestimated for its wellbeing effect.”
In Fractured, Jo reflects on the metaphor of light as a constant — refracting through emotion, illuminating both joy and pain. She describes the collection as exploring how light transforms perception, ‘beams of light dissect our reality around us, breaks through life as if chapters’ and offers hope: “In joy and pain I search for light, much the same as ‘the glass half full’ — to look to the positives, the light within any darkness.”
Her Instagram accounts(@jospehineframed) (@warelifedrawing) offer glimpses into her creative process — expressive mixed‑media works, poetic reflections and studies of light and texture — all underscoring her belief that creativity connects and heals.
Exhibition Dates: 4 – 29 August, 2026
