Maddy created the works featured in this exhibition over the last few months, since her residency with us in the Summer. She wanted to document the landscape and how it changes as we enter the winter months. Some show mornings, bright and crisp, whereas others show the deep evening blue of the nights. By playing with light and mark making, she tries to create a sense of atmosphere in her work, to transport the viewer to an entirely new place or back to a familiar one. In particular, for the works in this exhibition she employed a variety of different techniques and mediums. Whilst Maddy often works in more gestural mediums such as oil pastels and charcoal, she experimented here with the fluidity and vibrancy of ink, aiming to create a body of work that highlights the beauty and unpredictability of nature.
